Our client is challenging organisation with self-managing developers. In small teams they work on projects for their customers, both from customer location and from their own office in Rotterdam. We don’t have account managers or project managers; our senior developers are responsible for successful delivery of their projects to our customers.
They build custom software systems for them, and their focus is on system integration, backend systems and custom dashboards. They are exclusively a JVM shop; they have done a lot of Java over the last decade, and for the last couple of years they are also doing a lot of Scala. The client is not tied to specific technologies, but they look for what suits each project. To give a concrete example, they do a fair amount of Scala with Akka and Play framework and they often use Elastic Search, MongoDB, Postgres. Their source code is on GitHub.
They regularly work from their customers’ offices because they believe that that’s the best way to discover their real needs. But on Fridays they all work from our Rotterdam office, which gives them plenty of opportunity to share knowledge and have fun together. They spend part of their Fridays on getting better at what they are doing; they form study groups or book clubs on tech or books that interest them, or they experiment with new technology.

We value your knowledge and experience; we would love to learn from you and we're certain we can also teach you a lot of things, for example if you don't know Scala yet or you want to expand your functional programming knowledge.

We will provide you with a Macbook pro, and we believe that you’re the best person to determine the software you want to work with, so we won’t enforce specific software upon you.
We’re looking for passionate developers who are always looking for the best in themselves and the best for the customers. Because they don’t have managers to draw charts or go wild in Excel, we expect that you pick up responsibility of leading projects to successful completion.
We’re looking for someone with a strong Java or Scala backend background but also someone who’s not afraid of picking up an occasional front-end task.
You can lead a team of other developers and maintain a relationship with the customer. You plan ahead and signal problems in a timely manner. You’re a binding factor in a team of opinionated developers and you can lead the team in the right direction architecturally.
We continually renew and extend our knowledge and share it with each other. Senior developers like you take up a mentoring role for junior developers.
